Understanding complex systems of systems needs a great vantage point
There are many organisations, academic institutions and professional institutions that exist to educate, lobby and profit from systems engineering, systems thinking and whole systems visualisation to aid understanding of complex systems.  Global Smart Transformation (GST) has built its skills, competencies, knowledge and experience of complex systems of systems understanding by doing, not by text book techniques or academic literature, although all of these are interesting. “All models are wrong and some are useful”  (attribution George Box) hints at the challenge between the science and reality of understanding complex systems. GST has been helping governments (national and local), businesses (corporate and SME’s), academics and professional institutions for over 14 years to unlock the potential of whole systems understanding.

Governance, People, place and technology Most focus on solving our challenges is placed on technology, innovation and research. While the reality is that these are just elements of a solution to be deployed, not whole systems solutions to complex challenges. Often, technology is looking for a problem to solve - or worse - creating another problem elsewhere. It is the interaction, interface and implementation between these key elements (governance, people, place and technology) that holds the key to unlocking solutions that are resilient, robust, reproducible, economically realistic, environmentally sustainable and societally acceptable.
